How to Create a FANZA (DMM) Account: A Guide for Foreign Residents in Japan

javnavi.jp » How to Create a FANZA (DMM) Account: A Guide for Foreign Residents in Japan

FANZA is the adult digital store run by DMM. If you live in Japan and want to use it, the first step is an account. This guide walks through what to prepare, how the sign-up flow works, and what to set up afterwards. It is written for residents, so it assumes you are in Japan while you use the service.

Before you start

Know these three things up front, so nothing surprises you:

  • The site is Japanese only. FANZA does not offer an English interface. You can still use it with a translation tool or a few memorised terms. See FANZA age verification and the Japanese-only UI for a practical walkthrough.
  • It is 18+. You will be asked to confirm that you are an adult before adult content is shown.
  • Use it from inside Japan. FANZA’s help pages state that customers accessing from outside Japan cannot use credit cards (support.fanza.jp/payment/article/48822, note 1). Plan around that if you travel.

What you need

  • An email address you check regularly. Confirmation messages and account recovery depend on it.
  • A password manager or a safe place to store the login. DMM is a large service with many storefronts, so a unique password is worth the effort.
  • A payment method. You can create an account without paying, but you will need one to buy anything. See FANZA payment methods for foreign residents.

Step 1: Open the DMM registration page

FANZA is part of DMM, and its accounts are DMM accounts. Start from www.dmm.co.jp or from the FANZA top page and look for the new-registration link (新規登録, shinki toroku). Your browser’s built-in page translation is usually enough to find it.

If your browser is set to Japanese, you will see the native layout. If it is set to another language, the page text stays Japanese, but the translation feature can still render it readable.

Step 2: Enter your details

The form asks for the basics that most online stores require. Typical fields are an email address and a password. Enter an address you control and choose a password you do not use elsewhere.

The exact fields, and whether extra steps such as confirmation codes appear, can change over time. Follow whatever the page asks for, and use translation on any step you are unsure about.

Step 3: Confirm your email

After you submit the form, check your inbox for a confirmation message and follow its link or instructions. If nothing arrives within a few minutes, look in your spam folder. Messages are in Japanese, so keep your translation tool handy.

Step 4: Confirm you are 18 or older

Adult sections show an age confirmation before the content loads. You answer on the page that you are 18 or over. The details are covered in our age verification and UI guide.

Step 5: Set up payment

With the account ready, decide how you will pay. FANZA’s help lists VISA, JCB and Diners as usable card brands (support.fanza.jp/payment/article/11301), but cards issued outside Japan sometimes fail at checkout. A common workaround is to charge DMM points first and then spend the points. The full picture is in our payment guide.

Common problems

I cannot read the form

Use your browser’s translate function, or a translation app with camera or screenshot support. Keep the original Japanese visible while you work so you can match labels to fields.

The confirmation email never arrived

Check spam and promotions folders and make sure you typed the address correctly. If your mail provider blocks bulk senders, try a different address.

The site behaves differently when I travel

FANZA is built for the Japanese market. Credit cards cannot be used when you access the store from outside Japan. If you will be away, charge points before you leave and consult the official help page above.

Is FANZA the right store for you?

If you prefer an English interface and overseas-friendly checkout, another store may suit you better. We compare the two main options in FANZA vs DLsite.

Summary

  • A FANZA account is a DMM account, created from the site’s registration page.
  • The interface is Japanese only, so use browser translation.
  • Confirm your email and the 18+ declaration.
  • Charge points first if your card was issued outside Japan.
